A co-worker recently pointed out that I’m working my way back through the yarn process. With pulling out my spindle at work one evening (it’s been THAT kind of a week), he asked if we had enough room in our yard for sheep. “No”, I replied, “but we do have room for rabbits.”
Now Wonderful Husband is truly afraid that I’ll come home with a bunny at the next Sheep & Wool show I attend. We’re safe for now since Murphy (a greyhound) and bunny don’t go together…
…sorry. Got side-tracked looking at websites with Angora rabbits for sale. *slap*–no! No! NO! I do not need a rabbit. I do not need a bunny. I do not need another 4-legged dependent life-form.
Okay. Now that that is out of my system–Voila!
Yes, that’s my very first skein of yarn. It’s almost done. It just needs to be “fulled” which believe it or not involves putting it in very hot water and thwacking each end on the counter to relax the twist. At the moment, there’s no plans to knit this stuff up. I think it just needs to sit in my stash for awhile and breathe.
Not long after this skein was finished, another was begun:
This one is composed of wool and mohair. I’m able to get a longer draft and more even or less slubby yarn out of this. I’ll probably let this be a single-spun, too but that could change.
The Toesies are just about finished. “What are toesies”, you ask? Why they’re socks that come just over the instep and are worn with clogs. They are the perfect solution to sock yarn remnants. I was looking for a pair I bought a few years ago–not nearly as nice as what I’m knitting now but useful nonetheless. Couldn’t find them and had no idea where on Earth they were. Now I love toesies because I don’t have to commit myself to wearing a full-on sock. Plus, they keep the stuff that accumulates in the toes of shoes from taking up residence in your own toes. Ugh.
The pattern was inspired by of all things a Downey fabric softener commercial. There was a baby blanket used in the commercial and this pattern looks very similar.
And now for the totally gratuitious part of this posting–
This is the first full-on “let me drape myself across my favorite person” cuddle of the season. Please ignore my Jabba the Hut-neck (no that is not a pun on my mother-in-law’s maiden name). You would think WH would tell me this but there you have it. Me in a singularly unattractive and graceless position but warm and cozy due to the greyhound cuddling me up.
Tootsies!!!! I love ’em. I don’t wear clogs, but I know if I did, I would want them. You need to really submit this to knitty.com and get published….girrrrrrl:)
