That phrase from West Side Story has been running through my mind all day today. In anticipation of Knit Night which is, ahem ā “tonight”.
Many, many years ago in a life far, far away I ran the sound board for a production of West Side Story. My Wonderful Husband is in amazement that I remember a good portion of the lyrics from this musical as I have a serious case of “CRS” otherwise in the lyrical world ( I adore the man am in equal amazement at his lyrical recall. But he can’t carry a tune if you gave him a bucket and put it in there for him). If I’m going to sing–I need the lyrics right in front of me. My brain is too full of other things (like remembering stitch patterns, HTML, CSS inheritances, and browser quirks) to keep lyrics in it.
However, when you get right down to it. There’s no excuse for me not to remember these lyrics since there were 2 shows a day Tuesday – Friday and 3 shows Saturday and Sunday — for a month.
Oddly enough, I can remember melodies, harmonies, and bass lines like the back of my hand. Must be something having played the clarinet for almost 20 years.
The Twisty Turns wrap is just sailing along despite taking a break this weekend. I need a total of 104 inches before I can do the finishing sewing. I’ve got a solid 24 inches so far. Maybe I can be done with this by/for/just after the July 4th holiday. There’s a 5 hour car ride each way to Pittsburgh coming up and that could be a perfect excuse for a serious marathon knitting session.
The Arctic Diamonds Stole is finally begun. Hooray! I’m totally enchanted by this pattern except for starting it. I managed to read the chart backwards in this case, 1st row right to left. Unfortunately, it was a wrong side row . Strangely enough I correctly reversed the stitches. Talk about complex brain pathways!
A “case of the clevers” attacked me while I was working this piece. God bless circular needles! To make the sides correct, I finished the row I was on, broke the yarn and turned the work around so I was at the beginning of the row just completed. Fixed the problem like a charm!
This yarn is just flowing through my hands and while it’s only the beginning charted edge, I’m finding a certain rhythm in the pattern that is going to make this a complete and utter joy to knit.
The Feather and Fan Shrug is done. Sleeves sewn up. I might have to sew them up some more. They keep slipping down my shoulders. No pix on this one yet. It’s been a little camera shy.
